Napster is coming back, this time as a direct download service (no P2P file sharing!). (Napster used to be the first official P2P network offering free downloads but it was forced to shut-down its activities because of legal suits. ). Napster is now fast, safe and legal!

The site is easy to use, intuitive and has a wide-selection (more than 3 millions songs, covering all the major labels) of songs and styles. To copy a MP3 song to your portable player, a user just needs to drag and drop the file on the MP3-Player icon that appears on the screen. Download as much as you want and play it on your PC or a compatible MP3 player as long as you're still subscribed.

3 types of subscription are available:

1 - Napster “Light”: A pay for play version with no monthly fee giving you unlimited access to listen and pay for the songs you want to keep and copy.

2 - Napster “Regular”: Unlimited access, for a low monthly fee, to listen to and download all the songs in the database. A user cannot burn or copy songs to CD or MP3 Players with this service without paying a discounted rate per song.

3 - Napster “To Go”: This service, additional to Napster “Regular” enables you to copy all the songs to a compatible MP3 player. Note that you would still have to pay an additional “per song” fee if you want to burn songs on a CD.

Note that Apple’s iPod are not compatible with this service as Apple has chosen to keep both the iPod and iTunes closed off from Napster and every other digital music service. When downloaded, the songs and albums you buy are yours to keep forever. You can burn an individual song as many times as you like and the same songlist up to 7 times. You can copy your music to 3 computers, and transfer it to a compatible MP3 player an unlimited number of times.
